Celebrating its 5th anniversary on Sunday 10 July 2022, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K will boast an on-route experience that will entertain runners from start to finish.
“This year we will be pulling out all the stops to ensure an on-route experience like no other at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series. “Durban’s most iconic performing arts groups are practicing round the clock to ensure that they bring their ‘A-Game’ on event day. The point-to-point 10km route will incorporate iconic landmarks while highlighting the unique vibe of the City of Durban. We are also excited to welcome back spectacular sponsor activations including the Absa Vibe Point, PUMA Beat Bolt Sprint and DHL Mile To Go to mention just a few. New exciting activations to look out for will include vibe points from Chery and Heineken® 0.0. Runners can look forward to experiencing high octane energy from start to finish at the 2022 Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K.”

Durban’s leading performing arts groups that will #BringTheGees on the day will include the: DGC Marimba Band, Griffin Girls, WGHS Drumline, Durban Combined Pipe Bands, African Siziwe Performers, and Durban Girls High Majorettes to mention just a few.

According to Human, the DGC Marimba Band was started in 2012 and continues to grow from strength to strength. “In between studies, these high-school girls can be seen making music together with lively energy. The group lives to celebrate the joy of the marimba and passion for creating music together. The learners are bubbling with anticipation to celebrate the ability to share their music with runners at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K.”
“The Griffin Girls was started in 2017 and has become a lively all-female drumming group,” continues Human. “These high-school girls have developed their passion for the African drum and the music it can make together. The group loves any opportunity to share the beauty of traditional African instruments on the South African stage. The learners are looking forward to being the heartbeat of the city.”
“Started in 2022, WGHS Drumline is a lively all-female drumline,” says Bryan Clarke, WGHS Drumline. “These high-school girls have developed their passion for drumming and the music that they make together. The group is excited to put all their hours of practice to good use by performing for a lively crowd at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K. The learners are looking forward to being the heartbeat of the city. Runners will get to experience a passionate group that displays precision and enjoys music.”
“Durban Girls High Majorettes is an Elite League participating Majorette team that comprises of 41 high school learners,” says Fred Schoon, Chairperson Durban Girls High Majorettes. “Four of these ladies are part of the South African National Team. All of our young ladies have a passion for their displays and marches.”
“The Durban Combined Pipe Bands are a combination of members from the King Shaka Regiment (formerly Durban Regiment) Pipe Band, Queen Nandi Mounted Rifles (formerly Natal Mounted Rifles) Pipe Band and Durban Caledonian Society (formerly 1 Medical Battalion Group) Pipe Bands,” says Ken Mustard, Durban Combined Pipe Bands. “The Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K gives the pipe bands an opportunity to play for the people of Durban. We are proud to show that we will not be beaten by Covid and can’t wait to encourage runners and walkers on the day. Entrants and spectators can look forward to a good display of music performed on the bagpipe and drums.”
