Latest News

Glenrose Xaba and Kesa Molotsane are the latest top names in the women’s field to confirm their entry into the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K on Sunday 10 July.

These athletes join an already impressive list of runners that include Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba and Mahlet Alemu Mulugeta, Kenya’s Jesca Chelangat and South Africa’s Gerda Steyn.

“The women’s race will be exceptional, and we believe we have been able to put together the strongest ever women’s 10km field in Africa,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series. “To have a sub 31min 10km athlete (Jesca Chelangat – 30:48; Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K 2022), a multiple world record holder who just narrowly missed out on running sub 31 over 10km (Genzebe Dibaba – four world records, former World Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist) and South Africa’s best who are all coming into incredible form is amazing for the series and for South Africa. We are guaranteed to witness unbelievable racing come Sunday 10 July. We are very excited to have such a strong field of local and international athletes #RunForDurban.”

Xaba is in scintillating form after recently setting a new Personal Best in the 5000m, clocking 15:25.92, in Belgium, to improve her previous best by 13sec. She is in excellent shape, coasting to a best of 32:45 in the 2019 Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, a time which is very likely to improve substantially come Sunday.

Kesa Molotsane, known for exceptional consistency, finished 3rd at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K in October 2021 to run her PB of 32:51 and although the route is not the same, she does like to run in Durban and has posted some of the best times of her career in eThekwini over the years.

Also running is Lesotho’s National Record Holder over 10 000m, Half Marathon, Marathon, and Olympian, Neheng Khatala, and an already incredible women’s field that features four-time World Record Holder, Olympic Silver Medalist and former World Champion, Genzebe Dibaba, Kenya’s Jesca Chelangat, Ethiopia’s Mahlet Alemu and South Africa’s Gerda Steyn, and you have all the ingredients of one of the fastest women’s races ever to have taken place on South African soil. Khatala has run three races in 2022, the Motsepe Foundation Half Marathon, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K in May where she placed 7th in 32:06 to set a new PB and Lesotho National 10km Record, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Half Marathon on 4 June where she clocked 69:57, also a new Lesotho National Record.
